New Adventures in Learning

New Adventures in Learning is a way to keep your mind active. Since 1999, the organization has provided lifelong learning experiences for residents of Sun Lakes and the Southeast Valley.
The independent, peer-driven program is supported by and holds its classes at Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Sun Lakes Center at the northeast corner of Alma School and Riggs roads.
New Adventures members pay $50 a year.  For that fee, plus a small CGCC charge each semester, they’re entitled to take as many courses as they wish.  New Adventures is an organization of volunteers who together put in hundreds of hours of service so that this wonderful program can be provided at very low cost.   Currently more than 400 members are involved, including many from Cottonwood-Palo Verde.  In the 2010 Spring Semester, New Adventures offered more than 75 courses, a record.
The organization started with about 150 members and 30 courses per semester.  For years, growth was limited because classroom space was limited.  But voter approval – including overwhelming support from Sun Lakes residents -- of a Maricopa County Community College bond issue in 2004 enabled construction of a 6,000-square foot second floor on the Sun Lakes Center.  The addition created three state-of-the-art classrooms, the largest of which can hold 80 students.  Since the addition open in 2007, New Adventures’ membership and course offerings have doubled.
