An Active Adult Community

COTTONWOOD LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION

The Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association (CLGA) was founded January 20, 1980.  There were 24 charter members:  Penny Able, Alma Aiello, Marion Bailey, Fay Bartle, Yvette Born, Norma Corrie, Irene D’Andrea, Joy Empey, Muriel Erickson, Carmen Gilkison, Mae Hainline, Beth James, Isabelle Lyman, Mickey Oppido, Frieda Pinter, Til Pieper, Edna Pitts, Rose Rahr, Eleanor Sanson, Bert Sibley, Donna Skiles, Verna Squire, June Wilson, Myrtle Zimmer.

The Association grew rapidly and in 1984 there were 90 members and by 1989 the membership was over 250.

During those first years, CLGA became active members of the Arizona Women’s Golf Association, Central District.  In l985 Cottonwood was invited to participate in the Eastern Valley Team Play and has won the annual competition many times.  Mr. Robson was very supportive of the Cottonwood Ladies.  Among other things, he provided our first Team Play uniforms as well as sponsoring our annual President’s Cup Tournament.

As our Sun Lakes community has grown and new ladies golf groups formed, CLGA continues to enjoy the camaraderie of inter-club events with our neighbors and friends.

While golf is the reason CLGA exists, we are pleased to participate in charitable activities such as the Susan G Komen Rally for the Cure of Breast Cancer and other community charities.
