An Active Adult Community

SUN LAKES SHERIFF’S POSSE

The all volunteer Sun Lakes Posse was established by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in the late 1970’s when Ed Robson was starting to build homes in Sun Lakes, to supplement their efforts to protect the community from criminal elements, aid in emergency situations and participate in special projects for law enforcement agencies.

The Posse patrols the entire Sun Lakes residential and business area as requested by the Sheriff’s Office for traffic control, search and rescue, mall protection etc.  Patrol consists of day and night shifts and is on call and assigned to other details as needed by the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sun Lakes Posse office loans free of charge a wide variety of medical equipment such as walkers, wheel chair, canes, crutches, etc. to all residents of Sun Lakes. The Posse assists in establishing “Block Watches” in various Sun Lakes neighborhoods. They help in organization and training sessions with helpful crime-deterring materials.

Although the Sun Lakes Sheriff’s Posse is affiliated with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office it does not receive any financial funding from that office. It relies entirely on donations from the residents and businesses of Sun Lakes.

The Sun Lakes Posse has a recycling operation for newspapers, magazines, telephone books, cardboard and #1 and #2 plastics at their facilities at 9531 Riggs Road.

The Sheriff’s Posse is not affiliated with the “Patrols” operated by the individual Sun Lakes Homeowner Associations. They do, however, cooperate with each other in security situations.
