COMPUTER BOOTERS OF SUN LAKES

The first club meeting of the Computer Booters was held in July 1986 with approximately 60 people in attendance, 58 of whom joined the new club.  Dotty Johnson receives the credit for calling the first meeting and was the club’s first president.  Dotty moved to Sun Lakes in 1973 and is still living here.

Initially the club included members who owned Apple and IBM products.  The Apple owners decided to form their own club in later years so Computer Booters is now exclusively Windows users.

Meetings were conducted monthly with members sharing their expertise in the various programs they used.  Programs included Tax Survival Kit, Genealogy, Word Processing, Hard Disk Management, to name a few.  This information sharing format continues today – still on some of the same topics.

Current membership hovers around 300 and meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Arizona room in Sun Lakes Country Club.  Special Interest Groups (SIGs), also meet monthly, began several years ago.  Some SIG topics include e-Bay, computer Beginnings, Digital Photography, Pro Show Gold and Quicken financial program.  A Windows & SIG began in January 2010.

The first newsletter was published in December 1988.  It was and still is called “The Computer Booter.”  The newsletter, as well as additional club information, tips and tricks, etc. can be found on the club website, www.computerbooters.org.
